Private Equity Funds raise $160 billion

The biggest year for Private Equity Funds in 2022

The biggest year for Private Equity Funds last year.

Ten of the largest Private Equity Funds raised $160 billion in 2022, with Advent International, Thoma Bravo, and KKR leading the pack as the biggest capital raisers.

At the top of the list is Advent International’s £25 billion raise, which came after less than six months in the market. This represents a 40% increase in the amount gathered for its 2019 predecessor.

Thoma Bravo’s $32.4 billion fundraising effort across three buyout funds smashes the tech sector’s fundraising record. Its $24.3 billion flagship fund, which closed in early December, is 37% larger than its predecessor.

Also in the mix was Insight Partners, which raised $17.23 billion, 44% higher than its target of $12 billion. It is worth noting that Brookfield Assets Management raised $15 billion for its maiden fund, Brookfield Global Transition Fund, making it the ‘world’s largest private fund dedicated to facilitating the global transition to a net-zero carbon economy’, according to the firm.

Exciting, yet interesting, year ahead for the global private equity industry!
